A message from the director
Welcome to The California Center for the Book! Our mission is to help you, the librarians and teachers of California, get your customers and students talking about books. We promote reading throughout the state of California by providing free and low-cost programs and resources to you. For example:
- We are constantly developing new “books clubs in a box,” lively and popular book discussion programs for all age groups and for all kinds of readers. We want to help readers engage with society, with California, and with the world through reading.
- We partner with Poets & Writers to provide poetry workshops that have been very popular in libraries through the state, and we are always on the lookout for writing workshops that you might enjoy.
- We coordinate California’s entries in the national Letters About Literature contest for students in grades four through twelve. Every year thousands of California students participate in this wonderful program, and we appreciate your help in promoting it throughout the state.
- We are expanding our free online resources so that you can use our site to plan a author visit or a “one community, one book” program.
We’re looking forward to hearing from you and working with you.
